This woman was something else. I felt a little better about the situation now that I actually knew what I was getting myself into. We talked for about twenty more minutes before I decided to leave. I got up to hug her. “Thanks so much for the talk Ms. Barbara, you always have the best advice.”

“Girl, if you don’t stop putting Ms. in front of my name, you’re a part of the family now. Just call me Barbara,” she said while kissing my cheek.

“But we aren’t even together, I don’t know if I want to go through all of the jealousy and hate just to be with him.”

“Child, did you not hear what my grandchild said? If he is anything like his father or grandfather, he won’t stop until you are his and he is yours. Now that’s a fact for your ass, I told you he would take a liking to you.”

I just shook my head; the whole family must be crazy. I needed to call Persia just to warn her about what she was getting into. I kissed Barbara on her cheek again and exited her room. I wanted to hurry up and get on the elevator before the thots at my job questioned me about being in the same room with Adonis. I got onto the elevator and pressed the street level button while dialing Persia’s number and it went straight to voicemail. “I don’t know why you aren’t answering your phone but you need to call me immediately,” I yelled.

It wasn’t like Persia to ignore my calls so I was getting kind of worried. As soon as the elevator stopped on my floor, I got off and proceeded to walk to my car. As I got closer, there seemed to be somebody sitting on the hood of my car on their phone. I reached in my bag for my mace, whoever was crazy enough to sit on my shit was about to get blinded with the power of my pepper spray. As I got closer, he looked familiar. “Damn, I thought he left,” I said under my breath. “I thought you were leaving,” I said aloud getting his attention.

“I said I was leaving because I had to take care of an important phone call, plus Grams was semi cock-blocking. You ain’t think I was gone let you get away that easily right?” He had that same smirk on his face. This man looked so fine dressed in business attire. His sleeves were rolled up revealing his tattoos, just the way I liked it.

He started walking towards me while loosening his tie. “I’m taking you out tonight, there’s a new poetry and soul food spot that just opened up. I do business with the owner so he wanted me to check it out and I want you to be on my arm,” he said while rubbing the side of my face.

“I can’t go like this Adonis.”

“Go like what? You’re looking nice as fuck to me,” he said seriously.

“I need to go home and change.” The thing was I wasn’t comfortable with him yet; although I looked good in my comfortable attire, I just wanted to be alone and think about what I was getting myself into.

An Impala pulled up to the side of them and Nino, Adonis and Ramses’ other cousin hopped out. “Damn, she’s bad boss man, yeah you definitely lucked up,” he boasted. The fat kid slapped hands with Adonis and eyed me.

“This is my cousin Nino and the driver is Jimmy. They’re taking your car back to your crib because you’re riding with me. Hand him your keys so we can go.”

I didn’t know these kids; my house key was on this chain, what if they robbed me?

As if reading my mind Nino spoke up, “Shawty we ain’t robbing you; we’re doing a favor for cuzzo.”

The way he looked at me made me uncomfortable. With the way Adonis, Ramses and Turk looked, you would have never guessed that they were cousins. He had acne all over his face with one cocked eye turning to the left and was probably 300 plus pounds but shit, I was only guessing. I handed him my keys. “Don’t mess up my baby, I just washed her. She better be in the same condition I left her in.” My all black Camaro was my baby; I paid cash for that car, she was everything to me.

“Trust me, we won’t,” he said while licking his lips.

“Aight niggas, we out, I’ll get up with you later. Aye, make sure you tell Turk and them to make that drop,” Adonis yelled while opening the passenger door.

I got in and fastened my seat belt; the inside of his Maserati looked and smelled so nice. I leaned my head back in the plush seats, taking in the inside of the car. He got in and started the car while turning on the radio.

“Alright now, this song right here is for that new love. Here’s another slow jam for all of the new lovers out there. I want you to let those drop-tops down if you have one and cruise through the city. Hold your lovers hand and sing this song,” the DJ announced over the radio.

We pulled out of the hospital and Adonis let his drop-top down while the Isley Brothers

“Choosey Lover,” blasted through the speakers. We held hands as we drove through downtown Chicago, the wind felt so good on my skin. It was seven pm so the sun was setting as we rode past Chicago’s huge skyscrapers, I felt at ease, like I was his queen. He made me feel comfortable and safe; I looked over at him and smiled. He brought my hand up to his mouth and kissed it while keeping his eyes on the road. Who knew that within twenty-four hours, I would be doing this? It was all so crazy but I didn’t want it to stop.

  Choosey lover

Girl, I'm so proud of you

I'm so glad you chose me; baby, baby

And I'll make you so happy.

We came to a red light and he looked at me, his stare was intense but I didn’t back down. I stared right into his light brown eyes. He leaned over and kissed me softly and I didn’t stop him. I couldn’t, I didn’t know how. He pulled away but I went in for another. This behavior, my behavior, I wasn’t used to. What was I doing? I barely knew him but it felt so right.

I’m so glad you chose me baby, and I’ll make you so happy, those lyrics kept playing repeatedly in my head. Was this going to be the man that I fell in love with? The one I gave my heart to? It killed me that I didn’t have the answers to the questions that I needed answered so badly. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the rest of the ride with my hand still in his. Nothing else seemed to matter right now.

  ADONIS

I had only known Briana for twenty-four hours, yet it seemed like I knew her ass for years. Shit seemed surreal. As we cruised through the city, I stole glances at her when I could. Shit, staring at her ass, you had to be careful. People waved and hollered as I drove by but I didn’t say anything back. Right now, I was so engulfed in Briana's presence; no one else mattered. As I held her hand, riding with her by my side, I felt like a king for real. She had a nigga feeling shit I’ve never felt before, that’s why she was going to belong to me. She did something to me no other person walking this earth could.

The feelings that I had brewing deep down inside for this woman was scaring a nigga. How could a bitch have the power to make King Adonis go weak? Going weak over a bitch with the type of business I ran was a no go. That's another reason why Ramses and I were so successful; we had no ties to women. Pussy was a powerful drug that could fuck you up in many ways. Now don’t get me wrong, I dibbled and dabbled in some pussy from time to time. I had bitches on standby waiting for me to bless them but like I said, I had no emotional ties to them. I would fuck then leave.

However, Briana was making a nigga change; maybe I needed to feel what love was like, maybe I needed change. I didn’t want to leave this earth alone; someday I wanted a family with shorties running around. In order to do that, I had to change my ways. Yeah maybe this is for the best I thought, while stealing another glance at Bri, as I pulled up to the poetry spot. You could smell the food and hear the music from outside. I walked over to the passenger side and opened Briana’s door. She got out and adjusted her shorts.

“I could have adjusted them for you baby, that’s what I’m here for,” I said while staring at her ass. Briana had a fucking body that was out of this world. One of my weaknesses was a fat ass.

“I’m right here Adonis,” she said while pointing to her face.

I laughed at her sarcasm and shut the door. I couldn’t wait to be behind that shit.

“Mr. Smith, we've been expecting you. We have your b
ooth already awaiting your arrival,” the valet parker said.

I tossed him the keys, “Don’t fuck up my shit nigga, I’ll fuck you up, and stop with that fake ass British accent Hassan, I know you from the hood.” He knew damn well he wasn’t British; this ghetto ass nigga was comical.

“Damn bruh, can I not have an imagination?” he said while getting into the car.

Briana started laughing, “You are something else,” she said while placing her hand on my chest and staring up at me.

“Shit, I’m only calling it how I see it.” We went inside and found our booth.

The waitress came and placed our menus in front of us, “Wolf, is that you? I didn’t know you had a girl. Damn, I’ll never have a chance now, she’s so pretty,” the waitress said while smacking her gum.

I ain’t want to be rude to the girl so I simply asked Briana what she wanted.

“I’ll have macaroni and cheese, greens, cornbread and fried chicken.” She put her menu down and smiled at me.

“Damn you sure you want to eat all that? You’re already thick you need to watch your weight fucking with somebody like Wolf boo.”

Adonis couldn’t believe the audacity of this dirty ass broad, hoes now a days just didn’t give a fuck. He could have killed the waitress right then and there but decided against it because his homeboy just opened this spot. He wanted his friend’s business to excel, but with her being rude to Bri, it made him go into a deep, dark place. No motherfucker on this earth was about to disrespect her, so far this bitch was the only one bold enough to say some slick shit but since they had a full audience, he was about to make an example out of her.

He stood up calmly and towered over the woman. Briana looked just as scared as she did because she didn’t know what he was capable of doing. She was about to intervene but decided not to. The girl was disrespectful nonetheless; if Adonis didn’t say anything, she would have gone off on her ass.

“Bitch do you know who the fuck I am?” he boomed.

The woman shook her head frantically.

“So why did yo' ugly ass feel the fucking need to come at my girl sideways? Bitch do you want to live? Are you that fucking crazy?” he asked her.

Tears ran down her face as she started pleading for her life. “I’m sorry Wolf, she’s a beautiful girl, I swear I didn’t mean it. I want to live, I’m so sorry,” she sobbed.

“You do some slick shit like that again and watch I wring yo fucking neck. Get the fuck out my face.”

The girl ran to the back of the club crying, Adonis sat back down calmly and picked up his menu as if nothing ever happened. After the waitress disappeared, everyone started to mingle again as if he didn’t just threaten to kill her seconds ago.

Briana didn’t recognize this Adonis; his eyes weren’t warm, they had turned cold. Was this Wolf? She reached over and touched his hand and she swore his demeanor changed, he was Adonis again.

“You didn’t have to do that, she wasn’t worth it.”

“Nah, she isn’t but you are. If anyone comes at you or disrespects you in any way, tell me Briana, I’m dead fucking serious. I knew bitches were gone test you once they figured out that you’re rolling with me.”

“I deal with jealousy all the time at work and school, I can handle it Adonis,” she smiled and it warmed his heart. He loved the fact that she was positive. Although she said she could handle it, deep down she knew she wouldn’t be able to. Woman now days were a different breed of, “hoe,” they prided themselves on messing up a happy home. Adonis was sure that the “standbys,” he kept in his phone weren’t going to be too pleased hearing the news that he was now taken. They were quiet right now but he knew shit about was to get started.

  BRIANA

I couldn’t believe that bitch had the audacity to say that shit to me. I was about to go off on her ass but Adonis interrupted me. I didn’t expect him to go off the way he did but she deserved it.

“Don’t react, just sit pretty,” Barbra's words replayed in my head.

How long will I have to sit pretty before I had to beat a bitch's ass?

“Can somebody come take our fucking order?” he boomed over the music.

Everyone looked over at us and I felt embarrassed. Then all of a sudden, everyone started whistling and shouting his name.

“Aye Wolf, I fucks with you nigga! You’re the man fam.”

He waved them off and looked at me.

  “What bighead?” I asked.

He didn’t say anything; he just sat there and stared at me as if he was searching for somethin’. I was getting a little uncomfortable so I decided to shift the mood.

“Tell me about yourself Adonis, I feel like I barely know you.”

“Well, what you want to know baby?”

  “Everything,” I pleaded.

  “Be specific,” he said seriously.

  “Well, how old are you?”

  “I’m thirty-three.”

“What do you do for a living?”

“I’m a business man but I also have several hobbies that bring in income as well.”

“Like what?” I asked. I wanted to see if he was going to be truthful.

“You sure you really want to know ma?” he smirked.

As soon as I opened my mouth, another waiter appeared.

“Sorry about that Wolf, what can I get for you?”

“I’ll have a T-bone steak with mac n cheese, greens, candied yams, corn bread and mashed potatoes.

The waiter took his menu. “Aight Wolf, we'll have y’all food out as soon as possible.”

Adonis nodded and the waiter walked off. All of a sudden, it got dark, like someone dimmed the lights and a woman with dreads walked on the stage; she looked beautiful and so Afrocentric.

“My name is Lala and I’m going to read my poem to y’all tonight. Snap your fingers if you’re in love, falling in love or think you may have found love.”

Everyone in the audience snapped their fingers.

Adonis looked at me and said, “You gone snap or what?”

He was being funny but I snapped my fingers and he joined.

“Damn, you must be feeling a nigga huh? Come closer to me baby.”

I scooted closer to him and laid my head on his shoulder. He gently rubbed my back and kissed my forehead. I was so into the poetry that I didn’t notice our food come.

“Black love, God, I love black love. So powerful, so unique. When we look at each other, I’m unable to speak. Then I’m unable to speak....”

“She’s whack as fuck. She needs to get her ass off the stage,” he said whispering in my ear.

“Bae that’s not nice,” I teased. Truth was, she was whack; it seemed as if she was just making shit up. This wasn’t real poetry to me. Real poetry captivated you. It made you feel every single word being spoken. It seemed as though she was just up there for the fun of it. I definitely wasn’t feeling what she was spitting.

  “Here, try this.”

I sat up and he had some of his steak on a fork. He brought the fork to my mouth and I took a bite never taking my eyes off his.

“That shit was sexy.” He wiped some left over sauce off my lips and kissed me. Then he kissed me again. This time, he grabbed the back of my head with one hand while wrapping his other hand around my neck. “You’re doing something to me Bri, I don’t know what the fuck it is but this shit is so fucking unfamiliar.”

“Do you want me Adonis?” I asked him.

  “Fuck yeah ma.”

“Then show me, make me feel it,” I whispered softly. I felt his mouth cover mine, our tongues intertwined and danced in each other’s mouths. In one swift motion, he lifted me up and sat me on top of him. It was dark and everyone else was fixated on the woman on the stage; well I hoped they were. His hands moved up my thighs and cuffed my ass.

“Your skin is so fucking soft,” he mumbled in that deep raspy voice.

He sucked and kissed on my neck and I soon found myself grinding on him. Surprised by my actions, I
tried to stop myself but he placed his hands on my hips and made me grind on him again but harder. A soft moan escaped my lips as we dry humped. People started clapping and cheering and I got scared. I hopped off of him with the quickness thinking that they were staring at us only realizing that the woman on stage was now done.

I joined the crowd and snapped my fingers as well. “Why aren’t you snapping?” I asked him. Once again, I caught him staring at me.

“Why would I snap if I wasn’t paying attention?” he said.

“It doesn’t matter, at the end, you're supposed to snap.”

“Get back on top of me ma, right now.” He leaned his head back and closed his eyes as if he was awaiting my arrival.

I did as I was told and his hands cascaded down my back as he stared into my soul.

“Baby please,” I begged. I needed him to stop before something bad happened.

“I’m your baby now?” he grinned while his strong large hands invaded my body.

“Yes, yes you are,” I whispered.

“I like that ma, I really like the sound of that.” He then started to snap his fingers.

Other poets performed their poetry but Adonis and I paid them no mind. We were so into each other, in our own world that we saw or heard no one else.

“You ready to go baby?” he asked.

  “Yeah, I’m pretty tired.”

We got up, walked out of the club and waited for the valet to bring his car around. It was 10pm so it was a little chilly. He came up from behind and wrapped his arms around my waist while nestling his face in my neck.

An old couple walked by and stared at Adonis and Briana as they laughed and played with each other.

“You guys are so cute, you remind me of how my husband and I used to be. Just young and full of life,” the woman said while turning around to kiss her husband.

They looked at them, thought they were a cute couple and continued to walk down the street. His car had arrived, they got in and were on their way.

“I really enjoyed myself tonight,” I said looking at him while we were standing outside of my door. He towered over me and with one hand on the door and the other on my waist, he said,
