A Kingpin's Dream Page 4
He answered on the first ring, “Good morning beautiful.”
“You left your belongings,” I said.
“Nah, I left that for you, get you something nice on me.”
“I can’t take this amount of money Adonis.”
“Look, if you gone belong to me, you need to get used to shit like that. So like I said, get you something nice ma.”
“And you left your shirt,” I mentioned.
“Nah, that’s just for you to snuggle with at night,” he said while laughing.
“You have a good day baby; I’m taking care of business. I’ll hit you up in a lil bit,” he said and instantly hung up.
I walked back over to the chair and sat down. I picked up the wife beater and brought it to my nose, inhaled it and closed my eyes; he smelled so good. Even from it getting soaked last night, you could still smell his Versace cologne. I picked up the wad of cash and inspected it, there had to be at least ten bands. Did he really have it like that to be dropping this much cash on a woman he barely knew? Either way, I was grateful; it was going straight to my bank account. I decided to call Persia to see what she had planned for today. She didn’t pick up so her phone went straight to voicemail. Well I guess I’m chilling with myself today, I thought. I turned on Beyoncé, got in the shower and continued getting ready.
I decided to go to Starbucks to grab a frappe; while I waited in line, somebody tapped my shoulder.
“Aye, you’re Bri right?”
It was the same guy that was in the backseat of Adonis’ car last night; the one that reminded me of Lil’ Durk.
“Yeah, I’m Briana and you are?”
“I’m Turk, I’m gone be ya cousin-in-law or just cousin.”
“How are you so sure?” I asked him puzzled; these men were something else. All of them had to be crazy just walking up on strangers like that.
“How may I help you ma'am?” the cashier asked.
“I just want a caramel frappe with a chocolate chip cookie please,” I ordered.
“And I’ll have a lemonade with extra ice and aye fam, don’t be putting any mint leaves in my shit either.”
The cashier looked like she was about to shit her pants. Turk turned to me. “Don’t worry about it, I'll pay for it, just tell Adonis he owes me. That nigga owes me about a stack right now,” he boomed while handing the cashier a 100-dollar bill.
She handed us our drinks and tried to give Turk his change back. As Turk talked to the cashier like he was crazy, Briana took him in; he looked a bit younger than his cousins. She wondered how he found her because he didn’t look like the type that would step foot in Starbucks. Something was up. Briana looked around the store trying to see if she could find anyone else that belonged in their little clique or Adonis himself. When she didn’t see anyone, she turned her attention back to Turk who was still talking to the cashier.
“Nah, keep that shit and get you something nice. Aye Bri, come walk with me.”
I politely smiled at the cashier; I was beyond embarrassed. Did his ass really think that I wanted to walk anywhere with him right now? I came to this Starbucks regularly and I’m sure they would never look at me the same. Although he caused a scene in this establishment, his cousin was heavily on my mind and I wanted to know more about Adonis or should I say Wolf. As I followed him outside, we walked across the street to a park; it was a beautiful day in Chicago so everyone was either at the beach or in the park, doing whatever pleased him or her at that moment.
“Do you know what you’re getting yourself into?” he asked with a smirk on his face. His ass looked exactly like Lil’ Durk, only he had two teardrops under his right eye.
What’s up with the teardrops? I thought, Adonis had the same thing but only one complemented his right eye. He was also covered in tattoos like his cousins. He wasn’t as big as they were but he had a lil muscle to him and he was very handsome.
“What do you mean?” I asked because I honestly wanted to know.
“My cousin; that nigga is beyond crazy, literally. What he did last night, I’ve never saw that shit in all of my twenty-four years. I can tell he really likes you.”
I blushed on the inside, “I think I like him too.”
“Well fucking with him, you won’t have a choice because he’s gone pursue you either way. That nigga don’t know what no means.”
“Well, can you tell me about him so I can at least know what I’m getting myself into?”
“Aww shit, you are feeling that crazy ass nigga ain’t you?” he boasted.
I just shook my head, I knew he was going to go back and tell Adonis that I liked him.
“He’s crazy for real, he has anger issues; that nigga snaps for no reason sometimes, but he’s an all-around cool ass nigga. You’re just gone have to see for yourself. You bring out a different side of him that I’ve never saw before,” he stated honestly.
“Well, hopefully he never decides to just snap on me because we'll have problems.”
“I doubt it ma, but aye look, I gotta make a couple runs, it was nice seeing and talking to you, cousin-in-law.”
Was that it? I mean damn, he walked me to a park then decides to just up and leave only a couple of minutes after talking. I went against the urge to say some slick shit. We hugged and he walked to his car. I stood there for a minute thinking back on what he just told me. Could I actually handle a man like Adonis? I am only twenty, hell now that I thought about it, I didn’t even know how old he was. “Maybe I should back out of it while I still have a chance,” I said out loud to no one in particular.
I stuffed a piece of cookie in my mouth and walked to my car. I got in, started the engine and headed to the hospital to see Ms. Barbara. Even though it was my off day, I still wanted to ask her about this shit that I was in right now. She was cut throat, and always gave you her honest opinion. I put on my Ray Bans and turned on the radio.
I want you right now and not another minute later so come on
Put your money where your mouth is
Give you what you paid for, come on
I know it's real how my body feels on yours, oh
And I want to spend some time
No enter sign on the door,
Teyana Taylors' “Disturb” blasted through my speakers. I looked in the mirror and applied my pink Mac lip-gloss to my full pouty lips. My hair was in a messy bun and my baby hair gave it that extra kick. I didn’t dress up today; I just had on some blue jean short shorts and a gray off the shoulder shirt with gray flats. I still looked pretty when I didn’t even try. I quickly backed out of the parking lot and raced to the hospital to see Ms. Barbara.
ADONIS
I was in the elevator on the phone with Turk; I had him follow Briana just to see where she was going. Nah, I wasn’t a stalker, I just payed close attention to the people I fucked with on a regular basis. Her little delicate ass went to Starbucks. I was relieved when Turk said she wasn’t there meeting a nigga. It would have been bad for him because I would have given cuzzo the go to dead that nigga as soon as he was out of Bri’s presence, I didn’t play no fucking games. If I wanted you; I was going to get you, I didn’t share pussy.
“She likes you nigga, she wanted advice on how to handle a nigga like you,” Turk boasted into the phone.
A grin formed across my face.
“She’s playing hard to get for no reason bruh, shorty likes you,” he said.
“Aight nigga, good looking and keep following her ass too.” As soon as I hung up the phone, the elevator doors opened, and all of the nurses rushed up to me like I was fucking Obama or some shit. I didn’t like that shit because it brought on too much attention. I was chilling today so I didn’t need every mothafucka in my business. I walked passed them and didn’t pay their hoe asses no mind.
“Hey Wolf, I see your back. Your grandmother was just asking about you. I’ll let her know that you’re here,” Shantay said.
“Naw, I’m going into her room anyway so there’s no need.”
She stared at me lustfully as I walked past the nurses’ station. I couldn’t help who I was; women just wanted to be around me no matter where I went. However, if I was visiting Grams, she had my attention; it was her time and no one else’s. My grandmother was the only one that could turn my heart warm. It was like when I saw her, my day became brighter. Kinda like the feeling I got when I saw Briana. I came up here to speak to her today because I needed to ask her advice about the situation.
Shit I’m thirty-three and my grandmother has never saw me bring a broad home so I know she was about to be happy at this news. While walking into her room with the flowers I got from the store earlier in hand, I greeted her, “Wassup grams, how are you feeling?” I handed her the flowers and kissed her cheek.
“Child, I feel fine. I don’t know why you still got me in this damn hospital. I told you and Turk yesterday that I‘d take my meds. I even told my favorite nurse tech that I would take them. Get me out this damn hospital baby please; I don’t like these heffas. Every time you come here, they sit in that hallway and rant about sexual acts they'll do to you and Ramses. I don’t want to hear that shit.”
I was laughing my ass off, Grams was hilarious. “Until the doctor tells me otherwise, you’re not leaving Grams, maybe in about two days but right now I need you to stay, aight? Do it for me,” I pleaded.
“Alright grandson, two days tops then I’m out this bitch ya hear?”
“You got a deal.” I walked over to the desk and set her flowers down. With my back still turned to her, I told her that I met a woman last night.
“You did what? Awl shit, is the world coming to an end child? My grandbaby den met a woman that he actually likes. I feel like my heart is about to stop.”
I sat down in the chair and studied her; this woman was comical, too much at times. “I met her last night at my club, she was just someone that I couldn’t pass up,” I said.
“Well, how does she look baby? I hope she’s pretty, don’t be bringing no hood rats or thots to my house, ya hear?”
Now where in the hell did her ass get that from? She has been watching too much damn “Love & Hip Hop” because Grams was too hip. “I can’t describe her beauty.”
“Boy if your ass don’t tell me how the girl looks I’ll...”
“Aight Grams chill, she’s about 5'4, dark, smooth, rich chocolate skin. Naturally curly hair and the prettiest smile and dimples that you could imagine.”
“Wow grandson, It seems like you really like this girl, if I’m not mistaken that sounds like my baby that takes care of me up here. Her name is Bri…”
The door slowly opened and a familiar voice that I would come to fall in love with spoke.
“Hey Ms. Barbara, it’s Briana,” she entered the room and saw me.
My eyes were glued to her; she looked over at me and stopped speaking.
“Do you two know each other?” Grams asked.
“This is the woman I was just talking to you about.” My eyes never left her gaze. She looked even more beautiful than she did last night.
She finally looked down. “I’m sorry if I’m interrupting anything, I’ll come back,” she said while trying to leave.
“Bring yo ass back in here,” I commanded. Where in the fuck did she think she was going?
“Boy, if you don’t stop all that got damn cussing,” Grams yelled, even though her old ass just cussed at me.
“Come here Briana,” I motioned for her to sit next to me while never taking my eyes off her. She had the smoothest, softest legs and the prettiest feet.
As she sat down an uneasy chuckle escaped her lips. “Ms. Barbara, I would have never guessed that you had a grandson like him. He is too damn crazy,” she said while looking at me.
I winked at her and licked my lips causing her to look down again.
“Child who you telling, I raised him,” Grams said.
“Y'all are talking about me like I’m not even here. I see y’all know each other, that’s fine with me so I won’t have to introduce y’all asses.”
“Boy, if you cuss one more damn time, I’m gone crack this phone against ya damn skull.”
Briana laughed showing those dimples again. I don’t know why Grams was wildin, she always tried to show off in front of people. If that’s what made her happy, I let her.
“I work up here, I take care of her every time, she's a patient. I love her, she’s the grandma that I never had,” Bri said while smiling at her.
“Well grandma, Briana is a part of the family now.” I said that shit to see how Briana would act. To my surprise, she didn’t budge.
“How are you so sure Adonis?” she asked.
“You don’t have a choice; I told you that you’re mine already.”
“No, you didn’t.”
“Last night when I walked in your room, I sat down on that couch and watched you sleep. After about thirty minutes, I walked over and whispered in your ear that you were mine and it wasn’t shit that you could do about it.”
As soon as Briana walked up the stairs to go to bed, Adonis got an urge to follow her. He went against his gut instinct and waited a while before deciding to head to her room. After all, they didn’t know each other and he didn’t want to scare her into thinking that he was some type of bad guy. Shit, all he wanted to do was cuddle and hold her but he was sure she wouldn’t oblige so he decided not to ask. Adonis didn’t like to be told no; he was accustomed to everyone telling him yes. He’s always gotten his way but with Briana, it was different. He sat in the dark for at least thirty minutes before he found himself walking up the stairs to her room.
Her door was cracked slightly so he stood at the entrance staring at her and admiring her beauty. She barely snored or made a sound as she slept. That pajama set that she had on had Adonis getting ready to barge in the room and snatch it off her body.
“Down boy,” he said to himself referring to his dick. That shit is hugging that ass just right, he thought as he found himself entering her room. There was a couch near her bed. He quietly walked over and sat down being extra careful trying not to make any sudden movements. He watched her as her chest went up and down; her breasts were nearly bulging out of the mini pajama shirt that she wore.
He leaned forward and placed his elbows on his knees while taking Briana in. His strong arm reached over and pulled the cover up over her body because the sight before him was too much so he needed to cover her for her sake. He leaned back in the chair still admiring her. It was now seven am, so he decided he would stay with her a little while longer before he headed out to take care of business.
BRIANA
I was now aware that this man was crazy as hell. Who sat and watched somebody sleep for thirty minutes? I looked over to Ms. Barbara to see if she was going to say anything and she didn’t. She just stared at us, almost as if she was studying us closely.
“Adonis, do you mind stepping out the room real quick?” she asked him.
“I’m leaving anyway grandma, I got shit to take care of; I’ll be back up here tomorrow to speak with your doctor so we can see how you’re doing.” He stood up and went over to hug Ms. Barbara then came back over to me. He bent down and kissed my cheek. “I’m gone see you later baby,” he whispered in my ear.
I nodded; shit, if he wanted to see me, he could. This man was nothing that I had ever experienced before. He was demanding and powerful, yet a little sweet from what I could tell by now.
“Aight y’all, I’m out,” he said while walking out the door.
As soon as it closed, Ms. Barbara stared at me. “Honey do you know what you're getting yourself into?” she asked me with a serious look on her face.
Earlier, Turk had asked Briana the exact same thing. She hoped Ms. Barbara went into detail about her grandson because she didn’t get any real information about Turk. “As of right now, I don’t really have a clear idea but if you’d enlightened me, I would appreciate it,” Briana said.
“Honey, my grandson isn’t perfect; hell, none of them are
. They've done a lot of things in their lifetime. Adonis is special to me because he is my first grandchild; he's my baby. Now I love you Briana but I’m telling you now, he is nothing nice out there in those streets. If you decide to go forward with him, just know you’ll have one hell of a man running a lethal operation. With men of power come women and problems.
Now, I don’t know how his temptation is with women because he's never brought one to me before. Nevertheless, trust me when I say, men like that have more than a couple to satisfy their needs. His grandfather had a few women and I’m sure he does also, so don’t let him hurt you child. Remember what I told you; live for you and don’t let them take your happiness away.”
I sat there and soaked everything Ms. Barbara said up like a sponge. Dealing with a man like Adonis’ grandfather, I’m sure she endured a lot of shit. Although she went through that with his grandfather, Adonis could be different, or was I just being naïve? Trust and believe, I was definitely going to check his ass and make sure all those hoes he had now were no longer on his agenda. If you fucked with me, you were only going to fuck with me or your ass was getting tossed to the left.
“You know I’m taking everything in Ms. Barbara, hopefully I can handle a man like him.”
“If you ever need advice on my grandson, let me know. He can be a character at times but I love him dearly,” she said.
“So do you think I’m a good match for him then?”
“Hell yes child, this is the first time he’s expressed interest in a woman. My heart almost stopped when he told me about you. Honey, you’ve got to realize that he has come across hundreds of women; he is a man of power. For him to pursue you and not the other way around speaks volumes to me because I’ve never seen it. Just be smart about the situation. I’m sure once word gets around that he's taken, a lot of women will be after you to break up what y’all have. Don’t react, just sit pretty and laugh. Now, if you do have real proof of him cheating, God forbid, then you react. How you decide to go about that is none of my business but back in my day I was cracking skulls with pots,” she said laughing.
